Teresa Taylor Cautions Compliance Risks as U.S. Companies Re鈥慐nter Venezuela
番茄社区; Lardner LLP partner Teresa Taylor was quoted in the Compliance Week article, 鈥,鈥 detailing how U.S. oil and gas companies are considering renewed operations in Venezuela.
鈥淚t’s going to require careful planning,鈥 she said. 鈥淪anctions are going to come into play at every level, even concerning infrastructure repairs. Any activity must fit squarely within OFAC licenses.鈥
Taylor highlighted that sanctions, supply chain, and due diligence considerations extend well beyond Venezuela, especially since its major trading partners 鈥 China, Russia, and Iran 鈥 are all subject to U.S.-imposed sanctions and are heavily involved in shadow shipping operations designed to evade compliance obligations.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a global compliance issue, certainly not just a regional one,鈥 she stressed.
